While we were in Sevierville, Tennessee at the RV Dreams rally we met many wonderful people that were either full-time rvers or in the process of selling everything so they could live this full-time life style. There were a group of us that talked online on the RV Dream website and were all going to the rally, we all started calling ourselves “The class of 2014”, and have kept in touch thru Facebook, as well as a google calendar where we post our itinerary, and have met up again while traveling down the road. Sometimes camping together for a few days, having a lunch or dinner together while passing each other on the road, or each driving part way to meet up from where each are camping.
Ellen and Mario, are part of that group, they were camping across from us at the rally. They lived in Florida and traveled in their 5th wheel toy hauler, which carried their Harley. Ellen at the time still worked so they did not travel as often as they would have liked. Within the next year Ellen decided to retire and at the same time decided to sell everything they owned and travel full time. Mario was not to sure he wanted to sign up for full-time as he wanted to live on the beach. They are on the road now so not sure where Mario stands on this now!!
On Facebook Ellen posted a picture of their property in Blue Ridge, Georgia, for rent or sale. Ellen and Mario had one rv site on the property that they had used with their 5th wheel. The property is halfway between Blue Ridge and Blairsville, in the Chattahoochee National Park. It is in a gated community, there are log cabins as well as rv sites, small pond and small park.
Guy and I decided it would be a fun place to spend some time for the summer, hoping it was cooler there, so we rented it June – July. We were in the process of selling our home and other properties in order to travel this country and also call ourselves full timers, not wanting to own anything or be tied down. We spent one week in Blue Ridge, and yup, you know the rest, the property is now ours!! We didn’t just buy Ellen’s we also purchased the lot next to it. There is one other lot on the other side of ours that we would like to purchase and build a small log cabin on, that we could use or friends that are in the area.
The first day of construction was exciting, watching the tractors arrive and come down the driveway made it all a reality. I have taken so many pictures thinking I wanted to post them all…not possible!! Here are a few of the progress along the way.
Our children also own rvs and like to camp, we made the decision to use the second lot for two more rv sites with full hook ups so that they and any of our friends could come and stay as well. Each site is far enough apart that it will feel as if your not on top of each other, there will be a table and fire pit for each. We also decided to make the site at the top of the hill bigger and add a large covered patio with rock fireplace and bbq grill that can be used by all.
We needed to leave Blue Ridge to head to Decatur, Indiana for some repairs on the coach before our warranty ran out in Sept. So we haven’t seen the finished product but our contractor sent the final pictures so we could see, I will post for y’all.
We are looking forward to arriving back sometime this week if all goes well with the final repairs on the coach.
The Nomads send their love and many hugs to y’all, have a “Blessed Day”.
Come on back and check in with us with our travels!
