One of the best things I got to do while in Tucson was have lunch with my very first best friend, Barbara. We met when we were 9. We were not in the same class but one day we both wore the same dress to school! Well you can imagine we both decided we didn’t like each other right away, how could she have the same dress on!
That didn’t last once we talked to each other and found out that our birthdays are only 2 days apart and that we both were born in Massachusetts! So one day we decided to walk to her house for lunch, but I did not tell anyone and just left. We did not go back to school that day and boy was I in trouble.
It turned out to be a good thing as our parents got involved and they became best friends! Oh and yes we did get in big trouble.
Our families from then on did everything together, we all were inseperable, the parents played cards for hours while the kids ran wild! Barbara, had 3 brothers and I had two brothers and two sisters. We would all go camping together on weekends or vacations, the kids by then were also playing c ards or games long into the night.
Our friendship was so strong that when my family moved about an 1 1/2 hours away we wrote long, long letters everyday, calling on the phone was way to expensive. We were in each other’s weddings and there for the birth of our babies. But we lost touch due to the many moves of Guy and I as well as Barbs moving and just life getting in the way.
Barbara found me thru my son on Facebook about 3-4 years ago which is how we have reconnected. We talk on the phone but finally figured that we hadn’t seen each other in 35 years! I cry when I think about how much time we missed with each other. We talked at lunch for hours it was as if we never missed a beat! We really didn’t even eat! What is the most amazing is she drove 5-6 hours so we could get together.
it was so awesome spending time with My Very First Best Friend!
